Hatebreed – Live Dominance

I would think that witnessing the intensity of a Hatebreed show live would be hard to duplicate on DVD. Live Dominance comes damn close. If someone hasn’t seen Hatebreed live and they want do get a little glimpse, this would be a good start.

UK hardcores finest….

I discovered TRC a few months ago. From what little I know of TRC, the name stands for The Revolution Continues. They are six piece band from London that have been around for the past six years. They have put out the most original video from any hardcore band I have scene in a long time. It’s thugcore with a humorous twist if you will.

The band take their music seriously, but not themselves which is refreshing to see in a sea of angry seriuos hardcore bands that have been infiltrating the scene in the past few years. I have been listening to lots of Blood Stands Still, xtyrantx, Thick As Blood, and though I love these bands, their sound and style is so similar that it all gels like one band after while. After seeing TRC’s video for Define Cocky, I got their record and it sounds so different from what the rest of these US hardcore bands are doing. Here is a lil taste….

(Un)Rocklahoma 2010….

Man, I cannot believe it took Rocklahoma three years to turn to shit. New promotors have taken over and  took the heart n soul out of this glam fest. The festivals original idea was to be a homage to the 80′s glam bands and instead has turned into another  stale Cruefest pile of dogshit. They are trying to reach a broad market and instead will please none.

I can understand a band like Buckcherry thrown in, as they have the 80′s sleaze hard rock sound that the original Rocklahoma fans would eat up, but what on earth do Godsmack and Theory of A Deadman (both of whom are as bland as they come) bring to the mix. Where the hell are the Scorpions and Whitesnake on this years line up!

What was supposed to be a pilgirmage for every 80′s hard rock fan around the world has turned into something that 80′s fans will want to stay away from at all costs. Oh well…..at least we have the much better Midwest Rockfest that can take its place.

Reckless Road Book….

When I found out an official photo book documenting the early days of the original Guns N Roses line up was coming out  by photographer Marc Canter, I got all excited. Marc was an old friend of the band, and took pictures of pretty much all the early Guns N Roses gigs. Many of these old photos were taken at  The Troubadour, The Roxy, The Whisky, Raji’s, and all the other  infamous clubs in West Hollywood. There are hundreds of  photos of the band on stage, back stage, and at rehearsals. These are not generic photos every GNR fan has seen in magazines a hundred times already. These photos have never been published until now and man what a scrap book this turns out to be.

Prong touring in 2010….

The first time I saw Prong live was when they opened up for the Bad Brains live in 1993. They blew my mind as I never heard the type of music they were making at that period. Their sound was like a slower, more grinding mesh of Killing Joke & Ministry.

Dave Ellefson back in Megadeth….

This is good news in the Megadeth camp. James Lomenzo is out and Dave Ellefson is back in. No longer will I refer to the band as the Dave Mustaine Project. I have seen Megadeth twice since Ellefson left and it was just not the same. With so many guitarists and drummers leaving since 1987, Mustaine along with Ellefson were the original core members. Ellefson’s bass sound was very distinct and an integral part of the Megadeth sound.

It’s nostalgic also for me as Peace Sells But Who’s Buying was one of the first cassette tapes I purchased  back in 1987 and Dave Ellefson was my fave Megadeth member back then (kinda like someones fave KISS member). Considering Mustaines track record, Im not sure how long this will last, but hopefully long enough for me to catch the line up live at least once. As for James Lomenzo???…maybe he can go back and join White Lion as Mike Tramp is milking that one to the ground.

Revolver Golden God Awards….

Revolver Magazine presents the second Golden God Awards show in April in California. Think of this as the heavy metal grammys. Its a black carpet affair in case you didnt know. The show this year will be hosted by Andrew W.K. & WWE Wrestler Chris Jericho.

Blackened – This Means War

Man I have bumped into some mediocre albums in my time, but this one takes the whole cake. The most uninspired, bland, heard it al before performance of all time. This is Chris Beattie’s (bass player for Hatebreed) side project & that is why it’s disappointing to hear this as Hatebreed is one of my fave bands. I wouldnt find this album so annoying if it wasnt for the grating, nails to a chalk board vocals of the lead singer.  Considering the high quality albums that Hatebreed puts out, I cant believe Chris would put his name on this.

Merauder – God Is I

What can be said about this record other then….AAARRRGGHH!!!!! If you miss the days of Beneath The Remains, For Those Who Were Crucified, and Left Hand Path, then this is it right here. This is brutal as hardcore gets, and done none better then the guys who created this slow, grinding, Cro Mags meets Entombed mess of a style that is so often stolen by other bands.
